There is a unique magic to Prince Edward Island (PEI). From the moment you cross the sparkling waters of the Northumberland Strait, you are greeted by rolling green hills, vibrant red sand beaches, and some of the best seafood on the planet.
During our East Coast road trip, we spent two incredible days exploring Canada’s smallest province. If you are looking for the perfect blend of coastal drives, historic boutique hotels, and mouth-watering meals, here is exactly how we spent an unforgettable 48 hours in PEI.
Day 1: The Bridge, Great Coffee & Charlottetown Charm
Crossing the Confederation Bridge & Foxy Fox Coffee House

Our PEI adventure started with a bucket-list drive across the spectacular Confederation Bridge. Spanning 13 kilometers over the ocean, it’s an awe-inspiring way to arrive on the island.
Because we hit the road early, we hadn’t had our morning coffee yet. Luckily, our first stop in PEI was the village of Crapaud, where we stumbled upon the Foxy Fox Coffee House. This cute little coffee shop was exactly what we needed. We ordered some fantastic lattés and spent time browsing their lovely attached boutique shop while our drinks were being made. It’s a must stop right after crossing the bridge!
Checking Into The Great George Hotel

Properly caffeinated, we drove into the historic capital city of Charlottetown to check into our accommodation: The Great George Hotel.
This hotel is a Charlottetown institution and an absolute highlight of our trip. It is a stunning, award-winning boutique property composed of heritage buildings. The hospitality is unmatched, we were even welcomed with a complimentary beverage upon arrival! It’s the perfect, romantic home base for exploring the city on foot.

The Boardwalk & Dave’s Lobster

After settling in and enjoying our drinks, we walked down to the Charlottetown Boardwalk. It’s a beautiful place to stroll, take in the harbor views, and feel the sea breeze.
By then, we had worked up an appetite, and you simply cannot visit PEI without eating a lobster roll! We headed over to Dave’s Lobster in downtown Charlottetown. Served on a perfectly buttery, toasted bun and packed with fresh meat, it completely lived up to the hype. The seafood chowder was also delicious.
Day 2: Scenic Landscapes & The Best Fish and Chips Ever
Prince Edward Island Preserve Co.

The next morning, we took a scenic drive out of the city to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co.
Located in New Glasgow, this isn’t just a place to buy jam. It is a gorgeous destination featuring a beautiful shop, a fantastic restaurant, and acres of beautifully landscaped gardens overlooking the River Clyde. After browsing the shop, taking a peaceful stroll through the grounds is the perfect way to spend a relaxing morning.
Cavendish Beach

From New Glasgow, we drove up to the North Shore to visit the famous Cavendish Beach.
Located in Prince Edward Island National Park, this stretch of coastline is famous for its stunning dunes and vibrant red sands. We took a long walk along the beach and finally got to dip our feet into the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Dinner at On The Dock Eatery (North Rustico)

We ended our day in the charming fishing village of North Rustico for dinner at On The Dock Eatery.
I do not say this lightly: this was the best fish and chips we have ever had in our lives. The batter was unbelievably light and crispy, and the fish was incredibly fresh. We also shared a massive, delicious bowl of local PEI mussels. Eating world-class seafood while looking out over a working fishing harbor is an experience we will never forget.
Summary: A Perfect PEI Getaway
Prince Edward Island may be small, but it punches well above its weight when it comes to hospitality, scenery, and culinary experiences. Between the historic charm of The Great George and the unbelievable seafood at On The Dock, our time in PEI was nothing short of spectacular.
